  • How do I schedule a Mass for someone?

    You can now schedule Mass intentions for July 15, 2026 through January 15, 2027. This will be coordinated through Polly at St. John's Church in Independence. Please have a  few approximate dates in mind, as your preferred date may not be available. 

    *To schedule Mass intentions:

    1. Contact Polly at 319-334-7191 or email p.barreto@dbqarch.org or stop by St. John's Church in Independence to schedule Mass intentions. Polly will schedule and assist every parish in our pastorate with Mass intentions.

    2. You may also place an envelope marked "Mass Intentions" in your church collection basket or at the parish office. Be sure to include your name and phone number. 

    3. You can mail your Mass intentions to: St. John's Church, Attn: Polly, 209 5th Ave, NE, Independence, IA  50644.

    *Scheduling limts: to allow more families the opportunity to schedule Masses for their loved ones, each household may schedule up to 2 Mass intentions - one weekend and one weekday per household.

    Intentions may be offered for an individual (e.g., Joe Smith), for a family (e.g., For the deceased members of the Joe Smith family), or for two people (e.g., For Joe & Mary Smith).

    *Mass Offering: $10.00 per intention is due at the time of scheduling. 

  • How do I update my contact information with the parish office?

    If you have moved, changed phone numbers or email addresses, please contact the parish office either by phone or email with all necessary changes. We appreciate having currrent information on all parishioners. 

  • How do I schedule a baptism?

    To schedule a baptism, you should contact the parish office to: register to attend the Baptism preparation class, provide us with information on the child, parents and godparents, and set a date for the sacrament of Baptism. Those who have attended a baptism class within the past 3 years do not need to attend one again. 

  • I will be traveling, where can I find Mass times in other cities?

    A good resource for Mass times all across the country is www.masstimes.org 

  • Is Mass canceled if there is inclement weather?

    If the schools are closed or delayed due to weather conditions, Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville. If the cancellation or delay falls on a Tuesday or Thursday,  instead of Mass at St. Joseph in Raymond, the Mass will be celebrated at the same time at Immaculate Conception in Gilbertville. Please watch your local station for Bosco Catholic School System weather announcements.

  • How do I purchase a cemetery plot?

    For St. Mary's Cemetery and Sancta Maria Cemetery, please call the parish office with questions or to purchase a cemetery plot. We will go over what is available and all further details. 


    For St. Joseph's Cemetery, please contact Bill Johannes at (319) 231-8451 with questions or to purchase a cemetery plot. 

  • What hours is the parish office open?

    Regular office hours for the parishes are Monday - Friday 8am-4pm. Please note, when Mass is at IC, the office is open right after Mass. Summer hours are Monday - Thursday 8am-4pm. On occasion, the office may be closed for various unforeseen reasons. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have an  emergency, please call (319) 296-1092. 

  • Can I make an online donation to the parish?

    We are not currently set up to receive online donations; we do however, appreciate anyone who wants to support our parishes. You can set up e-tithing to make an automatic donation from your bank account as often as you'd like. You can also discuss planned giving by calling the parish office or talking with your financial planner.
