Confirmation

Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph Parishes offer a Confirmation Preparation program each year to sophomore students who want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a joint Sacrament for Immaculate Conception Parish, St. Joseph Parish, as well as St. Athanasius, Jesup and St. Francis, Barclay parishes. The sacrament is celebrated in August each year, alternating locations between Immaculate Conception, Gilbertville, and St. Athanasius, Jesup.

Confirmation Preparation Program

  • In preparation of the Sacrament, students attend preparation classes during their sophomore year.
  • Registration is in August/September, with a parent/student information meeting.
  • Classes are held September through August. Classes do not meet May-July.
  • Preparation includes class time, group service projects, class retreat, and other related activities.

Our goal is to prepare students to "Be the Light of Christ in the World" through the Sacrament of Confirmation, where they will receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus on the occasion of his baptism by John. Jesus' entire mission occurred in communion with the Spirit. Before he died, Jesus promised that the Spirit would be given to the Apostles and to the entire Church. After his death, he was raised by the Father in the power of the Spirit.

Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world . . . We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.
